Six young friends investigate missing persons cases in a remote cave system, unaware they're being stalked by an ancient creature lurking in the depths. This has all the makings of a great British creature feature. Our young characters are relatable and well cast, and there's a fantastic turn from the amazing John Rhys-Davies who brings a strong presence to the film. I loved the lore behind the story and how our group came to be investigating the cave network where our mysterious creature dwells. The setting is cold, dark and oozing atmosphere - you can feel the damp air close in around you and can tell this was shot in caves and not on a studio set. There's some fantastic practical effects when we first see glimpses of what they are capable of and the fact we don't get a full reveal until the third act is fantastic. It's almost Alien esque in approach, having each glimpse show a new side of the creature and when we finally see it in full glory it's something to behold. The only slight I have is the effects in the latter act do take away from the earlier creepiness of the creature, but overall I enjoyed the film and there are some fun deaths to keep you gore hounds satisfied.
